American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Pittsburgh

This nonprofit, nonpartisan organization is dedicated to defending and protecting our individual rights and personal freedoms. Through advocacy, education and litigation, our attorneys, advocates and volunteers work to preserve and promote civil liberties including the freedom of speech, the right to privacy, reproductive freedom, and equal treatment under the law. The ACLU stands in defense of the rights of women and minorities, workers, students, immigrants, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, and others who have seen bias and bigotry threaten the rights afforded to all of us in this country by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Bethlehem Haven

Bethlehem Haven is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing a number of services including emergency shelter; transitional housing; permanent supportive housing; medical, dental, obstetrics and mental health services; as well as employment services to women in the Pittsburgh area. The Haven also provides some medical, mental health and employment services to non-residents, including homeless men.

Girls Coalition of Western Pennsylvania

The Coalition exists to address strategic gaps in the region meeting a need for staff and leaders of girl-serving agencies to share information about programs, new research, or training opportunities in a more formal way. By connecting these powerful and creative programs to each other, the Girls Coalition makes it easier for girls and families to identify and take advantage of all the amazing opportunities that exist in the region. We aspire to help youth serving agencies serve girls better--more thoughtfully and more effectively.

The Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics (PCWP) at Chatham University is a non–partisan center devoted to fostering women’s public leadership through education, empowerment, and action. Sojourner House

Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS (Mentoring, Opportunity, Motivation, Spirituality) provide compassionate, faith-based residential recovery services to mothers and children in the Pittsburgh area.  We help addicted mothers learn to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and chemical abuse while rebuilding damaged relationships with their children.  Sojourner House believes women can shatter the chains of addiction and hopelessness when surrounded by what means most to them: their children.

Strong Women Strong Girls

Strong Women, Strong Girls Pittsburgh partners with five institutions of higher education to leverage the time, energy, and talent of college undergraduate women. Through these partnerships, Strong Women, Strong Girls engages mentors to volunteer at a program sites in their community.

Ujamaa Collective

The Ujamaa Collective is a non-profit organization of women of African descent who are entrepreneurs, artisans, artists and individuals who are committed to serving their community through leadership. Through Ujamaa, artisans have an economic outlet for their work, micro-enterprises have the support to grow, customers gain access to locally-produced items, and Pittsburgh has a regional destination to draw customers and visitors to the Historic Hill District. Utilizing a mixed model of entrepreneurship training, creative financing, marketplace establishment and cooperative establishment and cooperative business practices, Ujamaa assists in filling the gap for African American women in economics, education and opportunity.

YWCA Center for Gender and Race Equality

The YWCA Center for Race & Gender Equity is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and/or programs that address individual and systemic racism and gender inequity and directs the development and integration of the Association’s programs and initiatives around gender, race and social issues. The Center also serves as the Association’s lead for advocacy and research efforts.
