First-Year Honors Housing
The First-Year Honors Community, located for the first time in Forbes Residence Hall, is a relatively new endeavor sponsored by the University Honors College. This community is comprised of a diverse and dynamic group of over 150 first-year undergraduates who hail from every corner of the globe, represent practically every major and have a multitude of different interests. Despite these differences, all these students share commitments to academic excellence, student involvement and responsible living. Most importantly, this community is exclusive to the honors college. Every resident of Forbes Hall is an Honors Qualified student, with a mix of first-year and sophomore students . First-year students will be housed together while sophomores will have their own floor within the community. Our goal is that first-year students can learn from each other and enrich their intellectual lives by living with like-minded people, while also gaining the benefits of the experience of upperclass students.
Since this living experience is student driven, the Honors College is looking for students who have the maturity and the creativity to help make these communities succeed. Specific feature and opportunities available to students in this community include:
- Exposure to students with a vast diversity of majors, minors, and academic interests.
- Participation in programs that are both intellectual and social. We understand the importance of having fun and developing strong relationships with other students, and encourage students to participate in social, as well as intellectual events.
- The opportunity to have significant impact and influence over the development of the community.
- Exposure to 200+ potential tutors in every subject imaginable.
- The opportunity to participate in academic courses that will be taught in Forbes Hall.
- Living with like-minded students who respect one another, the concept of community, and the importance of academics and intellectualism.
