National Scholarships That Require Pitt Endorsement

The following awards have campus-specific deadlines that typically range from two to four months before the foudnation deadline. Note that these campus deadlines are not always listed on the foundation's official website. It is mandatory that students meet the campus deadlines and participate in the campus process to compete for these awards. Beinecke Scholarship

Beinecke Campus Guidelines

Scholarship for juniors in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Scholars are awarded $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. Candidates must demonstrate financial need and exceptional academic promise. Applicants must be United States citizens or United States nationals from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Boren Awards for International Study

Boren Campus Guidelines

Awards up to $20,000/year for summer, semester, and year-long immersive study abroad with a focus on  languages critical to US national security. Requires a one-year federal government service commitment after graduation. US citizenship is required. Graduate students interested in the Boren Awards should contact Jessica Sun in the Study Abroad Office

Churchill (Winston) Foundation Scholarship

Churchill Campus Guidelines

Funding for one year of graduate study/research in STEM fields at the University of Cambridge, including living expenses and travel allowances. Churchill Scholars are chosen for their outstanding academic achievement, proven talent in research, capacity to contribute to the advancement of knowledge, and array of talents and activities outside of academic pursuits.

DAAD Graduate Opportunities

Provide funding for graduate study or research in all fields in Germany. Not all fields require German language proficiency. U.S. citizenship is NOT required. Campus nomination deadline is generally in mid-October. Contact us if interested in these awards.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Fulbright Campus Guidelines

Research/study grants or English teaching grants for seniors, graduate students and alumni to promote mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange. US citizenship is required. Undergraduate Pitt campus deadline is early September. Graduate students interested in the Fulbright should contact Jessica Sun in the Study Abroad Office

Goldwater (Barry M.) Scholarship

Goldwater Campus Guidelines

$7500 awarded to sophomores and juniors who demonstrate excellent research potential in the STEM fields. Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Marshall Scholarship

Marshall Campus Guidelines

Funds postbaccalaureate study in a variety of disciplines in the United Kingdom. Marshall Scholars are future leaders who will strengthen the relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments and their institutions. Graduating seniors and recent graduates can apply up to three years after receiving their first undergraduate degree. US citizenship is required.

Mitchell (George J.) Scholarship

Mitchell Campus Guidelines

Funds postbaccalaureate study in a variety of disciplines in Ireland or Northern Ireland. Candidates under the age of 30 with a record of leadership and a commitment to public service can apply. US citizenship is required.

Rhodes Scholarship

Rhodes Campus Guidelines

Funds postbaccalaureate study in a variety of disciplines at Oxford. Rhodes Scholars are chosen for their outstanding scholarly achievements, character, commitment to others and to the common good, and potential for leadership in their fields. Graduating seniors and recent graduates under the age of 24 can apply. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Schwarzman Scholars 

Schwarzman Campus Guidelines

Prepares future leaders for success in a world where China plays a key global role. The program gives outstanding students from around the world the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through a fully funded one-year master's degree focused on Public Policy, International Relations, or Economics and Business at Tsinghua University in Beijing. U.S. citizenship is NOT required.

Truman (Harry S.) Scholarship

Truman Campus Guidelines

Juniors who demonstrate promising academic potential, outstanding leadership, and a commitment to the public sector receive up to $30,000 for 2-3 years of graduate study. US citizens and U.S. nationals or permanent residents of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible to apply. 

Udall Scholarship

Udall Campus Guidelines

$5000 to sophomores and juniors are eligible from a variety of fields who have demonstrated a commitment to environmental issues through a combination of coursework, research, internships, jobs, or extracurricular activities. Native American or Alaskan native students are also eligible for fields related to tribal health care or tribal policy.
