Mary Ellen Callahan Undergraduate Student Research Fund
Mary Ellen Callahan, a 1990 University Honors College Bachelor of Philosophy recipient in political science and 1988 Truman Scholar, has established the Mary Ellen Callahan Undergraduate Student Research Fund in the University Honors College. Awards from this fund will be made to support University of Pittsburgh undergraduates conducting independent research projects in the social sciences.
All participants receive a stipend for their work to provide freedom from employment and to encourage commitment to their research. Further, students may also receive reimbursement for travel and other research related expenses. The fellowship is open to undergraduate social science researchers who can be from any class, including freshmen, as well as seniors. Students also are encouraged to participate in additional components of the University Honors College including informal workshops, undergraduate research presentations, discussion groups, and other activities.
Projects may be analytic or purely creative. Awardees are selected on the basis of their academic record and the originality and promise of their proposed projects, as well as their aspiration to create and participate in an interdisciplinary community of students in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and applied disciplines.
