Fessenden Honors Engineering Program
The University Honors College (UHC) offers a particularly challenging and comprehensive two-term program for curious, motivated, and talented entering engineering students.
The Fessenden Honors Engineering Program (FHEP) enables participating students to take UHC courses together as a group for the duration of the program. UHC courses in the FHEP option include chemistry, physics, engineering analysis, and humanities/social sciences. The UHC elective courses, in addition to the technical subjects, make this unique program especially attractive for the highly motivated student with broad interests and abilities.
Beyond course work, the FHEP group meets on a regular basis to discuss general issues of personal and educational concern.

Reading list
The books and readings provided to you were selected because they offer a broad range of opinions from (generally) respected authors, and contain many intriguing/contentious thoughts on our topics of discussion. They provide a framework for our meetings, but by no means are the opinions of the authors sacred. The following have been book selections in past semesters:
- The Introspective Engineer by Samuel Florman
- The Civilized Engineer by Samuel Florman
- What Do You Care What Other People Think? by Richard Feynman
- To Engineer is Human by Henry Petroski
- The Two Cultures by C.P. Snow
- Technopoly by Neil Postman
- Engineering and the Mind’s Eye by Eugene S. Ferguson
