As Assistant Dean for the Honors College, David Hornyak oversees the broad range of mentoring and personalized education initiatives for students. Dave also has specific advising responsibilities as primary advisor for students in the Politics & Philosophy major and coordinator of the Bachelor of Philosophy degree process.
Prior to coming to the Honors College, Dave was an Academic Advisor in Pitt’s Dietrich School’s Advising Center. Before becoming an advisor, Dave was in the Student Affairs area of Pitt, where he worked in the Office of Residence Life as a Resident Director and Assistant Director for Health & Safety.
As an undergraduate student at Pitt, Dave was a Provost’s Scholar, majoring in Biology and Psychology. He was an active participant in the Honors College and its precursor Honors Program, serving as General Editor of the Pittsburgh Undergraduate Review. Dave continued his education at Pitt by completing a master’s degree in School Counseling, with a specialization in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education. His master’s thesis examined the relationship between Resident Assistant temperament as measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, job satisfaction, and supervisor rating. Dave received his third degree from Pitt, a doctorate in Applied Developmental Psychology, along with a minor in Quantitative Research Methodology. His dissertation was an examination of the effect that the DISCOVER computer program had on college students’ levels of career development within the Cognitive Information Processing career model.
