First year Honors LLC Application Process

Please make sure you complete all of the steps below when applying to live in the first year Honors Living Learning Community (LLC).

Access and Admission:

If a student is accepted into the Honors college, they are guaranteed admission in our first year Honors LLC. However, you still must secure your place by following the steps below.

We recommend all our first year students live in the first year Honors LLC to start their Pitt experience off on the best foot possible. However, students are able to live in whatever residence hall they like – it will not affect their membership in the Honors college!

The first year Honors LLC is open to all students but priority acceptance is given to students who have been accepted into the Honors college.

Step One:

Complete the University's Housing and Dining Contract Package that is mailed to students after you have paid your tuition deposit to the University. Each step detailed in the housing package must be completed by the date listed on your housing packet. When completing this contract, you MUST indicate under the Living Learning Communities section of the contract that you wish to live in the Honors LLC. If you have already completed the housing process and wish to go back and indicate your interest in the first year Honors LLC, contact Panther Central at 412-648-1100.

Step Two:

When you indicate your interest in the first year Honors LLC, you will be taken to our supplemental application in the system. This MUST be completed to be considered for the first year Honors LLC. If you have already been accepted into the Honors college, these questions do not affect your acceptance into the first year Honors LLC because you are already guaranteed admission. However, we would like to learn more about you through those questions!

Step Three:

If you are applying to live with a specific roommate, you must BOTH list each other as roommates within the University's Housing and Dining Contract Package and both complete the first year Honors LLC supplemental application. You are more than welcome to apply for the LLC on your own and will be placed with a roommate if accepted into the first year Honors LLC.

Because the first year Honors Living Learning Community (LLC) is open to all students, accepted Honors college students are welcome to list a roommate who has not been admitted to the Honors college. However, students who have been admitted to the Honors College have priority access to the LLC over students who have not. Therefore, there could be a situation where the accepted Honors college student is offered a place in the LLC and their roommate is not.

If this occurs, Panther Central will fall back on the rankings students provide in their housing contract - is it more important for them to be in the LLC or room with that roommate? If they rank living "in the LLC" over "with that roommate," they will be placed in the LLC and forgo living with that roommate. If the accepted Honors college student ranks living "with that roommate" over "in the LLC," Housing will keep their roommate group together, but place them somewhere where they're both eligible to live.

What happens if I am not selected for the first year Honors LLC?

If you are not selected to live in the first year Honors LLC, you will be assigned (pending your completed Housing and Dining Contract Package) alternate first-year housing. Your assignment will be based on the information you provided during completion of the Housing and Dining Package. Housing is based on your building preferences, as well as roommate requests, roommate matching questions, and housing availability. Please understand that your preferences are highly considered during placement, but often times students do not receive their first preferences due to availability. Please know that no matter which housing accommodations you are assigned to, the University of Pittsburgh will work to ensure that your experience is a positive one. Questions about this process should be directed to Panther Central at 412-648-1100.
