If you are a freshman, participate in First Experiences in Research.
Click on the list of departments conducting research and choose an area that interests you. Read the research profiles. You will find the contact information of the researchers on the site. Contact the researcher(s) by writing an email message that includes the following information: what year student you are, what courses you have taken, your interests in research, your interest in meeting with them and discussing research opportunities, anyone (especially another professor) who knows you well and can be contacted to communicate about you, and the number of hours you are willing to commit to lab work in the Fall and Spring terms and whether you will be available during the summer. Send this message to ten researchers. If you fail to get responses, contact your academic advisor or come to a walk-in appointment at the University Honors College.
Join one of the science or pre-med clubs. You will meet upper-classmen who are involved in research. You can ask for a tour of the labs and then make contact with the primary investigators.
