The University of Pittsburgh is home to students from across the world, and there are numerous scholarship opportunities available for international students.

Chevening Scholarship

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. These scholarships are open to all citizens, other than those of first-world countries, and for any discipline. Successful applicants generally have a focus on development in their home country.

Commonwealth Scholarship

Commonwealth Scholarships are funded by the British government and are given to talented individuals with the potential to make a positive impact on the global stage. If you are from a Commonwealth country and believe you could make a difference to the world but you can’t afford to fund your UK studies on your own, then you could be the ideal candidate for a Commonwealth Scholarship.

Erasmus Mundus

Erasmus Mundus is a two-year scholarship for all disciplines of master's-level graduate study funded by the European Union.  Students receive a master's from a European “Co-ordinator University” while also spending semesters at other universities in the European Union and beyond.  These Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are distinguished by their academic excellence and by their high level of integration. Students at from all over the world can apply.

Ertegun (Mica and Ahmet) Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities

The Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities funds graduate studies in the humanities at Oxford in a unique setting that fosters dialogue across academic disciplines, cultures, and generations.  The scholarship emphasizes both academic excellence and leadership potential and is open to citizens from every country.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship supports graduate study at Cambridge University in all fields. Applicants must show evidence of commitment to improving the lives of others and a suitability for Cambridge. Gates Cambridge is open to all nationalities (but deadlines vary based on citizenship).

Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarships

The Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship program offers scholarships worth up to £10,000 - to study a full-time master's program in any field of studies in Wales. The scholarships are available to students from Vietnam, India, USA, Canada and countries of the European Union.

Irish Research Council

Irish Research Council Postgraduate Fellowships fund Masters- and PhD-level research in any field and at any university in the Republic of Ireland. They are open to all, regardless of citizenship.  Applicants must have a supervisor at an Irish university in place, who also contributes part of the application.

Knight-Hennessy

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars supports graduate study at Stanford. You must have received your undergraduate degree within the seven years prior to applying (or be in your final year). International students can apply. Awards are granted based on independence of thought, purposeful leadership, and a civic mindset.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship supports post-baccalaureate study at Oxford University. The Rhodes is the most celebrated international scholarship for graduate-level study or for pursuing a second undergraduate degree. Rhodes Scholars are chosen for their outstanding scholarly achievements, character, commitment to the common good, and potential for leadership in their fields. Graduating seniors and recent graduates aged 23 or younger can apply. U.S. citizens, green card holders and DACA recipients can apply.

Deadline: Early October every year Contact Lesha Greene at LEG78@pitt.edu by August at the very latest to discuss the process for endorsement Students cannot apply without institutional endorsement Applicants generally require a GPA of 3.7 or higher.

Saltire Scholarship

Saltire Scholarships fund 1/2 of tuition for one year of graduate study in technology, science, creative industries, healthcare, medical sciences, and renewable/clean energy at any college or university in Scotland.  

Scoville Jr. (Herbert) Peace Fellowship

The six-to-nine-month Scoville Peace Fellowship provides the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security. Open to non-U.S. citizens who live in the U.S. and have a U.S. work visa for the duration of the fellowship.

Soros (Paul and Daisy) Fellowship for New Americans

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans covers 1/2 university tuition plus a $25,000/year grant for any US graduate study in the United States. Open to Green Card holders or non-U.S. citizens who went to high school in the U.S.
